Ingredients for Snake kiwi puff pastry cake:
- 1 puff pastry sheet
- 1 egg yolk
- 3 large kiwis
- custard
- Old fashioned oats for the snake eyes
- Red apple skin, strawberry or watermelon for the snake tongue
How to make a snake kiwi puff pastry cake:
Cook the custard and let cool. Custard recipe here.
Draw and cut a snake body in a cardboard to make a template. Remember that puff pastry shrinks during baking, so draw the body of the snake a little wider than kiwi slices.
Heat the oven to 200 °C.
Now, with the template and a knife, cut 2 snakes and remove the excess of pastry (don’t throw it, you can use it to make fruit tartlets). Let both pieces apart to avoid that they sticking during the baking time.
Prick the pastry with a fork and paint with beaten egg yolk. Then, bake a few minutes until they golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool to room temperature.
Put custard on one of the snakes and cover with the other snake. Let 30 minutes in the fridge.
After this time, put a little more custard on the top of the snake and decorate it with a kiwi slices. To make the head, peel a kiwi and shape. Introduce a tongue made with red apple skin, a thin sheet of watermelon or strawberry; also put an old fashioned oats or pumpkin seeds to make the eyes.
Let rest in the fridge about 30 minutes before serving.
